Finnish citizenship test 2027: what is known

Updated

From 1 March 2027, most people aged 18–64 who apply for Finnish citizenship must show knowledge of Finnish society. The main way to do this is a multiple-choice test taken in Finnish or Swedish. The Finnish Immigration Service (Migri) organises the test, and the first tests are held in spring 2027.

Questions

Is Koevalmis the official test or from Migri?

No. Koevalmis is an independent practice service. The official test and its study material come from the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri). Always check the official information on migri.fi.

Are these the real test questions?

No. We write our own questions from public information on the topics the law lists. When Migri publishes the official study material, we update the questions to match it.

Which languages are available?

Questions are in Finnish with translations into English, Russian, Arabic, Dari/Persian and Somali.

Do I have to take the test?

It depends. The requirement applies to applications from 1 March 2027 for people aged 18–64. A Finnish or Swedish matriculation exam, or a Finnish- or Swedish-language degree completed in Finland, can replace it. Migri decides on exemptions.
